Hon. Minister of Sports and Culture visit at the Ethnographic Museum on 3rd August, 2014
On his arrival, Hon. Amb. Joseph Habineza, Minister of Sports and Culture was welcomed by Urugangazi; museums traditional dance troupe that performs for visitors and other ceremonies while preserving Rwandan culture.
The Minister took his time to tour the seven galleries of the museum including the temporally exhibition on the Evolution of Technology in Pre- colonial Rwanda. With fascinating collections and well exhibited objects, the minister felt home and relaxed as he freely interacted with the Director General-Alphonse B. Umuliisa together with vibrant museums staff.
Joyful as he was, Hon. Minister could not hesitate to mention the enduring journey and effort the Institute of National Museums of Rwanda (INMR) has made in putting a smile to Rwanda's history and safeguarding national heritage.
The visit was enticed with a guided tour to the museums’ Traditional Training Center (TTC) that imparts the youth with traditional knowledge through different activities like weaving, beading, ceramics, post-card making, forge, livestock farming, iron smelting, pottery and basketry. After being trained, the museum helps them to form cooperatives and provides them with a place to exhibit and sell their products.
